My day in the “TITANIC”
“Titanic is something GIGANTIC”
–says Bendera, owner of one of the hotels in Kilifi.
Q. You have a wonderful hotel and it has become a Kilifi landmark. Why the choice of Kilifi?
Ans. Kilifi is a small nice town and also my home area so I wanted to develop it.
Q.Why the name Titanic?
Ans. Because it means something gigantic.
Q.Considering the more popular knowledge of the word as regarding a ship that sank on its first voyage are you not concerned that the name can work against you?
Ans. Titanic is just a name like any other name, for example when a child is born and its given the grandfather’s name then he happens to die of a certain disease, it doesn’t mean that the child will also die of that disease.
Q.How long has the Titanic been in operation?
Ans. Three years
Q.With a name like Titanic and with lovely beaches in Kilifi, why was this hotel not situated along the beach?
Ans. Hotel Titanic was not situated at the beach because we wanted to come up with something different (unique) that people would love, easy to access and also I wanted it to be within the business centre.
Q.Since it is not a beach hotel is the hotel also subjected to the same pattern of high and low seasons that the beach hotels are subjected to?
Ans. No. Because we mostly deal with companies and co-operations that bring conferences to the Hotel.
Q. What corporate social responsibility is the Hotel involved with?
Ans. During public holidays we support the prisoners, orphanages by donating food stuff
Assisting community by supporting the youth groups
We offer training to the community by creating AIDS awareness.
Q. We notice that you have some hefty security men around the premises. Is there any special reason for this?
Ans. To make it safest place for our visitors.
Q. The huge building behind this one – is it an expansion of the hotel?
Ans. Yes it is.
Q. The Hotel the ice cream parlour and the supermarket – which of the three is your most profitable?
Ans. No Comment
Q. What does it take to be able to successfully run the three?
Ans. It takes:- Handwork ,Confidence, Responsibility, Team work
Q. Please tell us about the facilities and services that the hotel has to offer
Ans. Conference facilities, Accommodation facilities
Q. What do you consider to be the greatest advantage that the hotel has over competition?
Ans. High quality service
Q. What do you have to say about the business environment in Kilifi?
Ans. The business environment in kilifi is still slow.
Q. What do you think needs to be done to establish Kilifi as a major conference destination?
Ans. Marketing Kilifi and to welcome more investors to invest.
Q. Over the last 3 years, Kilifi has experienced some very dramatic growth in terms of population and visibility and it can only grow. Are you adequately prepared to handle the Kilifi of the future? If so in what specific ways?
Ans. Yes. As kilifi grows also Hotel Titanic grows whereas there will be more job openings
Q. There were some complaints by members of the public about the quality of the food served at the hotel and the services. Do these allegations have any merit?
Ans. NO. If at all the allegations were true we could not be serving the numbers as we do now.
Q. IF not why do you think they were brought up? Do you have enemies who want to malign your work?
Ans. May be yes that’s why the allegations came up, some are there to destroy one’s business.
Q. If the allegations have merit what have you done or are you doing to rectify the impression?
Ans. We are always there to keep our services up to the required standards
Q. What final word do you want to share about the Titanic?
Ans. I would like to thank all our customers for keeping the hotel alive because if it were not for them Titanic would be just a building. Come one come all to experience the grand Hospitality. |
